Previously known as the bet365 Foundation, the Denise Coates Foundation provides grants to other registered charities in England.
The principal activity of the Foundation is to provide funding to charities that will use the resources to enrich the lives of those that they exist to support.
In particular, the Foundation provides funding for charitable projects that address the following areas:
Coates set up the Bet365 Foundation in August 2012, and in February 2016 it was renamed to Denise Coates Foundation. It is a registered charity under English law13 and it donated £100 million14 to twenty UK charities as of 2014. A foundation set up by the founder of the gambling firm Bet365 received £85m in donations from three companies that are part of the Bet365 group last year, according. Bet365 Foundation John helped Denise set-up the Bet365 Foundation in August 2012 and it has donated £100 million to 20 UK charities to help support projects home and abroad.
- Health and Wellbeing: Grants have been given to hospices registered as charities for equipment, a minibus, and to build a new facility. Internationally, funding has supported the first year of a two-year project to deliver improved sanitation, hygiene and understanding of public health.
- Education and Training: The Foundation is ‘committed to trying to make a difference, giving people an opportunity to realise their potential by helping to ‘level the playing field'. It has provided funding to two universities to support students from the local area who have disadvantaged backgrounds. Internationally, it has given funding to a college in Trent Vale, England to help set up a project in Sierra Leone which aims to provide severely disadvantaged children with access to education and training that will ultimately provide them with the skills to earn a living.
- Medical Research and Development: Funding for medical research to advance treatments and to potentially deliver cures for diseases and conditions that can have a devastating impact upon individuals suffering directly and those close to them. Funding has been awarded in support of three medical research programmes, two of which are focused upon research in the field of dementia and one upon lung function in pre-term babies.
- Disaster Recovery and Emergency Relief: At the height of the Ebola crisis in West Africa the Foundation made two significant donations to support the 'on-the-ground' efforts to combat the effects and spread of the virus.
- Community Development: Funding has been awarded to a charity that works with young people to help develop a premises that provides employment for young people with whom the charity works and to provide opportunities to gain experience and skills.
- Arts and Culture: Funding has been given locally to campaigns to save two historically important pottery collections as well as to a local theatre and nationally to a recognised art gallery.
Funding is at the discretion of the Trustees. The Foundation tends to offer large grants for large projects.
Last year the Foundation awarded £3.6 million in grants to 23 charities, 22 of which each received grants of more than £20,000.

How To Apply:
The Trust does not currently maintain a website or an email account. Applicants will need to make a formal application and presentation to the Trustees - they will be invited to present their proposals to the Foundation's Trustees detailing how a donation would be used and the benefits that it would deliver. The Trustees assess how the proposal aligns to the Foundation's objectives in order to determine whether or not to grant a donation.
